MIXTAPE: CHAMILLIONAIRE - MIXTAPE MESSIAH 6

Outside of Chamillionaire, I never felt compelled to listen to the new generation of rappers coming out of Texas. There's of course Lil Flip, Mike Jones, and Paul Wall, who all strongly became household names a few years ago, but Cham is noticeably the only one who challenges the fine line between lyrical and mainstream expectations at the sacrifice of his wallet.

Take "Hip Hop Police" for example. Only a handful of rappers in the public eye would release a thought-provoking, politically controversial record like that one as their first single. Chamillionaire enlisted A-class producer J.R. Rotnem, invested in a theatrical music video, and gave Slick Rick his first major feature in ages, all to make a critical point that the vast majority of new MCs would be afraid to tackle head-on.

Maybe the overwhelming success of "Ridin'" distorted the conscious image Cham wants to pursue in his career - far too many people overlook him as "just another rapper from Texas with a that hit single ringtone." No, Hakeem Seriki isn't disposable, he's the mixtape messiah, General of Chamillitary Entertainment, and isn't leaving the game anytime soon.

Full track list after the jump.
